Tau Gamma Phi
Tau Gamma Phi (ΤΓΦ) also known as the Triskelions' Grand Fraternity, is a fraternity established in the Philippines.
Its members call themselves Triskelions. Their aim is to see a
Fraternity System devoid of violence, and to earnestly propagate their
fraternity's principles as their way of life. Based on these goals, the
Triskelions, categorized their formal group as a 'protest fraternity'.
The Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity is now one of the largest fraternities in the Philippines with about 700,000 registered members. The Triskelion Alumni Organization (TAO) is the umbrella organization for all its alumni members. The TAO have established closely-knit enclaves in the United States of America, Europe and other continents around the world.
==Founding== fortitis voluntas terintas.. sintas The organization, originally known as the "Order of the U.P. Triskelions", was founded on October 4, 1968 by four Arts and Science students from the University of the Philippines, in the Diliman campus, Quezon City, Philippines. The group swelled in ranks and gained its recognition when the Greek-lettered name Tau Gamma Phi was adopted. A few years later, chapters from other college and university campuses in the Philippines were established.
The Tau Gamma Phi aims for the promotion and achievement of the ideals of fraternal brotherhood. The fraternity believes that it must forge its members to embody qualities of leadership, commitment, persistence, trust, integrity, respect, and vision. This fraternity aims for academic success, personal, career and spiritual growth, active participation in the community through service and social activities. The Tau Gamma Phi is committed to developing a best-in-class brotherhood organization: a student organization that embodies its own ideals and mission in accordance to fraternity's Tenets and Codes of Conduct.
A member of Tau Gamma Phi is called a Triskelion. A Triskelion has always lived up to the Three Dynamic Forces; Fortis (Strength), Voluntas (Free Will) and Fraternitas (Brotherhood).
===Martial law era=== the best basura ever Martial Law was declared on September 21, 1972 by the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos. Many of the cause-oriented groups critical to the regime, fraternities included, became targets of military harassment. Believing that these groups posed a threat to the order and stability of the Marcos administration. Ostensibly due to its 'leftist' leanings, the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity's office was raided under an Arrest-Search and Seizure Order signed by then Secretary of Defense Juan Ponce Enrile. Its leaders, including Ted Mogol and Enrico Lacuna, were summoned by then Secretary of Local Governments Jose Rono to a meeting. The Secretary informed them that the government is worried that such a strong organization, like the Tau Gamma Phi, might fall under the influence of the leftist. A thing that the government would not want to happen. Being independent, the Tau Gamma Phi did not heed the call but instead continued, not only to support, but became active participants. They fought, not only for the rights of the studentry, but the rights of the Filipinos for a better future.
While most of the fraternities struggled from the effects of Martial Law, the era makes the Tau Gamma Phi thrived and experienced unprecedented growth. Ramoncito “Monching" Ocampo, who was then Secretary-General of the fraternity, decided to tap the younger generations of the secondary school sector. This gave birth to the junior Triskelions at San Beda College - High School Department in 1975. Boyet Gorospe was one of the founders.
