Ferdinand Pascual Aguilar is a popular Folk singer and composer. He is known as ”Freddie Aguilar”
in the Philippine music industry. He is one of the best
musician-songwriters of the Philippines because of his contribution hits
such as Bayan Ko and Anak which gained him much recognition. His onset to singing career and the label where he belong were unknown.
He was born on February 5, 1953, originating from Isabela, Philippines. At the age of 18, he left his school and his family. He went to far away places without anything with him only favorite instrument, his guitars. Being far from guardians, he fell into gambling and realized his mistakes five years after. Because of that, his international song Anak was composed. He returned to his family and asked forgiveness for his ignorance. His parents welcomed with open arms just like the prodigal son in the story. Freddie and his father became closer after his father read the lyrics of Anak and his father died afterwards. He studied Electrical Engineering at De Guzman Institute of Technology though his father wanted him to become lawyer. But still, Freddie did not finish the course. He married Josephine Quiepo in 1973. Maegan Aguilar is one of their children and also a singer.
He entered Metro Manila Popular Music Festival completely unknown to people. But few weeks after, he is considered as the best musician in Manila. Song such as Magdalena, Anak, Bayan Ko brought him to such heights of popularity.

This served as the anthem for those who oppose the reign of “Ferdinand Marcos” during EDSA Revolution on 1986. He is known not only within the boundaries of the Philippine islands but gained recognition worldwide especially the OFWs.
His fame was again proven on the release of one of his monstrous hit ANAK, a folk-rock ballad. It was a worldwide hit and released to almost 59 countries and translated in 26 different languages. Because of this, he was garnered as the only Asian artist to achieve worldwide fame. Anak was used also as s finalist in inaugural 1977 Metropop song Festival in Manila.
Currently, he is still living here in the Philippines and transferred to his own place, “Ka Freddies”. He received an award lately last January 18, 2008 from Asia Star Award in Korea Asia Model Award Festival.
